How to Handle a Printer Paper Jam
Paper jams should be cleared slowly and without pulling hard on paper that may tear inside the printer.
Practical checks
Start with the basics.
- Turn the printer off according to its normal power procedure before opening access panels.
- Remove visible paper in the direction of the paper path, using both hands where possible.
- Check for small torn pieces around rollers and trays.
- Repeated jams may indicate worn rollers, alignment, damaged guides or a deeper mechanical issue.
